Greetings, CTU Members and Friends –
I hope you were as inspired as I was with our service with Dr. Wilhelm Verwoerd. I was particularly impressed with how clear he was with what actions are needed to create more social justice in our world. Here are some of his key points:
Connect with compassion: listen openly to hear others’ stories.
Convene small diverse groups where you can get to know others unlike yourself.
Cultivate trust in each conversation.
We want to explore the ideas in the Restitution Foundation’s “Toolkit”, which can be downloaded here. If you are interested in joining a group to help us explore some of these important ideas, contact Blanche.
As always, feel free to reach out to me if I can support you on your spiritual journey, or with any joy or sorrow you might be experiencing.
With light and love,
Nima

MARCH COUNCIL MEETING NOTES
Council discussed the fact that our materials and sources have primarily been American and Western and agreed we need to make a concerted effort to reflect our South African situation and social identity more authentically.
Based on the Lay Leader applications received, four people were selected to assist with the roles of International UU Building, Pastoral Care and Social Justice. Council agreed to advertise two more roles for Special Services and Social Activities.
A large pledge was received from Catherine Carpenter and Nima has conveyed our thanks to her.
Nima and Leigh will finalise our application for Year Two funding from the Unitarian Universalist Funding Programme for $20,000.
Council congratulated Fred, Alexios and all involved in the successful and very complicated beetle treatment project that is near completion. The sanded floors are gleaming now!
Next Council meeting: 02 May 2021. AGM: 23 May.
